Your dishwasher is one of the hardest working appliances in your home, and when it comes to cleaning, it is often overlooked. Did you know you can easily and safely clean your dishwasher with products you likely have around the house? No harsh chemicals required!

All you'll need is a little time, white vinegar, and baking soda. A pair of gloves is recommended but not required. Begin with an empty dishwasher. With gloves on, sweep the drain area for debris and place in the garbage. Next, add one cup of white vinegar to a dishwasher-safe bowl and place on the top rack. Choose the hottest heat setting and run the dishwasher through a cycle. The heat combined with vinegar will loosen any grease or grime and will work to deodorize the unit.

After the first cycle is complete, generously sprinkle one cup of baking soda on the bottom of the dishwasher. Baking soda will brighten your unit as well as deodorize and aid in removing any musty smells. Again, select the hottest water temperature and run the dishwasher through a cycle, and you're done!

Experts recommend cleaning your dishwasher every few months. Stay tuned for more spring cleaning tips from Berndes Cookware USA!
